Optical properties of quartz glass plate/sheets/windows

Quartz glass plate/sheets/windows are usually cut and ground from quartz glass, with a silicon dioxide content of over 99.99%. The hardness is Mohs Grade 7, which is characterized by high temperature resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion, good thermal shock resistance and electrical insulation. Next, let's learn about the optical properties of quartz glass!

The optical properties of quartz glass sheets have their own uniqueness. They can transmit far ultraviolet rays, making them the best of all UV transparent materials, and can also transmit visible light and near-infrared spectra. Due to its high temperature resistance, extremely small coefficient of thermal expansion, good chemical stability, bubbles, streaks, uniformity and birefringence, quartz glass is comparable to ordinary optical glass, so it is an essential optical material with high stability optical coefficient in various adverse situations.

According to optical performance, it can be divided into three categories:

  1. Far ultraviolet JGS1: Transparent in the UV and visible spectral range, without absorption band in the 185-2500nm wavelength range, with strong absorption band in the 2600-2800nm wavelength range, non luminescent, and stable light radiation.
  1. UV JGS2: Transparent in the UV and visible spectral range, without absorption band in the 200-2500nm wavelength range, with strong absorption band in the 2600-2800nm wavelength range, non luminescent, and stable light radiation.
  1. Infrared JGS3: Transparent in the visible and infrared spectral range, with no obvious absorption band in the 2600-2800nm wavelength range. Compared with ordinary silicate glass, transparent quartz glass exhibits excellent transmittance throughout the entire wavelength head. The spectral transmittance in the infrared region is greater than that of ordinary glass; In the visible area, the transmittance of quartz glass is also relatively high. In the ultraviolet spectral region, especially in the shortwave ultraviolet region, the spectral transmittance is much better than other glasses.
