Strategies for Efficient Cleaning of Quartz Glass

Quartz glass, as a material of high purity, high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance, is widely used in the fields of semiconductors, photovoltaics, optics, and chemical engineering. In the processing of quartz glass, cleaning is a crucial step that directly affects its quality and performance. This article will provide a detailed introduction to the implementation methods of efficient cleaning of quartz glass, including the cleaning principle, cleaning process, and precautions.

1. The principle of quartz glass cleaning

During the manufacturing process of quartz glass, a variety of contaminants will adhere to its surfaces. Such contaminants include dust, grease, metal ions and organic residues. These pollutants can affect the light transmittance, electrical insulation and chemical stability of quartz glass, thereby reducing their performance in use. It is imperative to emphasize that efficient cleaning is an indispensable step in the processing of quartz glass. The core principle of quartz glass cleaning is to remove surface contaminants through physical or chemical methods.

2. The efficient cleaning process of quartz glass

To achieve efficient cleaning, it is usually necessary to combine multiple cleaning methods and optimize the process flow. The following is a typical and efficient cleaning process.

(1) Pretreatment

Firstly, a preliminary cleaning of the quartz glass should be carried out to remove any large particle contaminants. It can be cleaned using compressed air or a soft cloth.

(2) Ultrasonic cleaning

The quartz glass is inserted into the ultrasonic cleaning tank, deionized water or a special cleaning agent is added, and ultrasonic vibration is used to remove tiny particles and grease.

(3) Chemical cleaning

The selection of the most appropriate cleaning agent for the type of contaminants is crucial. For instance, hydrofluoric acid is used to remove metal oxides, and sodium hydroxide is used to remove organic matter.

(4) Rinsing

Rinse repeatedly with deionized water to remove any residual chemical cleaning agents.

(5) Plasma cleaning

Plasma treatment is carried out on quartz glass to remove residual organic matter and tiny particles on its surface.

(6) High temperature cleaning

The quartz glass is then placed in a high-temperature furnace and undergoes high-temperature treatment in an inert gas environment to remove volatile pollutants.

(7) Final inspection

The cleaning effect should be checked with the use of optical microscopes, surface roughness meters and other equipment to ensure that no contaminants remain on the surface of the quartz glass.

2. Precautions for efficient cleaning

(1) Selection of cleaning agents

Select the appropriate cleaning agent based on the type of contaminants to avoid corrosion or damage to quartz glass.

(2) Control of cleaning time

If the cleaning time is excessive, it may cause damage to the quartz glass surface. If the cleaning time is insufficient, it will not be thorough. It is essential to optimize it according to the actual situation.

(3) Adjustment of cleaning temperature

In the process of both chemical and high-temperature cleaning, it is imperative to maintain precise temperature control in order to prevent quartz glass from cracking due to sudden temperature fluctuations.

(4) Control of the cleaning environment

During the cleaning process, it is necessary to keep the environment clean to avoid secondary pollution.
